6 Ways to be a Better Person

Being good to people around you is not only beneficial to them, but to you as well.  It feels good to lift another person up.  Plus, the little things you do for people may inspire them to do the same for others, creating a cycle.  Now that's powerful.  Here is a list of things you can do to better yourself, as well as somebody else:
1. Compliment Someone
I was having a really rough week recently.  Things were not going well, and I started feeling down.  I was walking through a parking garage, and a woman took time out of her day to tell me that I was wearing a pretty skirt.  It wasn't the fact that she liked my skirt that uplifted me, but the fact that she went out of her way to tell me something so nice.  She was very friendly as well.  It made me smile and gave me a better outlook on other people.  And it was such a simple gesture.  So next time you get a chance to compliment somebody, go for it.  It may be something that makes their day better, and it may end up inspiring them to do that to someone else.  It inspired me to create this post..

2. Make a Positive Statement
Sometimes people get in bad mind states where they think that everything is going wrong.  It's a horrible place to be in, but we all get there sometimes.  If you happen to be talking with somebody who is going through that, take a moment to talk about something good that is going on.  Sometimes people need a reminder of the good things that happen in life.  Plus, people don't usually remember what you do, but how you make them feel.  If you can uplift someone with positivity, they will likely want to be surrounded by you more.

3. Give a dollar at the grocery store.
Quite often when you check out at the grocery store, you will have the option to add a donation to a charity.  You aren't going to burn a whole in your wallet by letting go of a couple dollars when you shop.  You would be surprised by how the little amount that you give can go a long way when added with the rest of the people doing the same thing.  Plus, it can make you feel good to put a little of your hard earned money towards a good cause.

4. When somebody drops something, pick it up for them.
You never know when somebody is having one of their worst days.  This small gesture could be a small step in turning somebody's day around.  It's always nice to know that there are others out there willing to take 2 seconds out of their time to help somebody out.

5.  Smile at a stranger.
A smile can be contagious.  Show others that there are friendly people out there, and smile as you pass them.  It's a busy world out there, and it's always nice to receive a smile from someone.  It can remind people that we are all in this thing called life together.

6. Small talk with a stranger.
Life is short.  Creating conversation with strangers can really build your character.  You can learn so much from all sorts of different people in the world.  Plus, you can really make someone's day by having a pleasant conversation with them.  So next time you're waiting in line, on an elevator, or at the grocery store, don't be afraid to chat with somebody you don't know.

What is something someone did for you lately that uplifted you?

  1. I always think it's so kind when I have a lot of things in my hand and a stranger rushes over to open the door for me. People can be so kind sometimes.
