1. Put Your Snacks in a Small Bowl.
Have you ever grabbed a bag of chips for a snack and realized you had just ate half of the bag? It can be hard to limit yourself when you have a large amount of food in front of you. You are less likely to over-do it if you put just a small amount in a dish, and then put the bag (or box) of food away.
2. Always Have Fruit Available.
Got a sweet tooth? Grab some fruit first. Often, when you eat a meal, you will crave something sweet when you're through in order to feel satiated. Try for a healthy choice before you go reaching for ice cream, chocolate, etc. Fruit can satisfy your sweet tooth just as well as something less healthy. And, if you absolutely must have an unhealthy sweet treat, use tip number 1 and only allow yourself a small amount.
3. Exercise
I know, this one is very obvious, but some people feel that if they are eating well, they can skip the gym. You will not keep your weight down to what you want it to be purely by watching your calories. Try and find some way to get your body moving. It doesn't necessarily have to be a trip to the gym. Go for a hike, bike ride, a jog, or even play some fitness games on Wii. Not only will you be burning calories, but you will be more likely to eat better in order to avoid ruining your workout.
4. Use Your Smart Phone
There are tons of apps that can help you keep track of your calorie intake. On these apps, you enter in your current weight, age, daily activity rate, and your target weight. You can then make a log of everything you eat throughout the day, and the app will calculate how many calories you have taken in, and how many more you can have in order to achieve your goal. This is a great way to make yourself aware of what you are putting into your body throughout the day.
